2Celsius este una dintre cele 72 de organizații din Europa semnatare ale scrisorii de contestare a taxonomiei introduse în legislația europeană de mediu care este contraproductivă pentru eforturile de protejare a pădurilor și biodiversității. Un exemplu este încadrarea tăierilor de arbori ca având o contribuție la combaterea schimbărilor climatice, deși activitatea nu respectă nici principiul de „a nu provoca daune” mediului.

Organizațiile semnatare contestă criteriile pentru silvicultură, precum și pe cele pentru bioenergie, care sunt la fel de problematice. Cerința este de a elimina cele două sectoare din Actul Delegat pentru taxonomie climatică, așa cum s-a întâmplat cu agricultura, și a permite mai mult timp pentru discuții pentru a identifica criterii credibile din punct de vedere științific.

Câteva exemple de încălcare a principiilor de mediu prin actualele criterii:

  • Pentru suprafețe de sub 25 de hectare de pădure nu este necesară realizarea unei analize privind beneficiile climatice ale silviculturii pentru schimbările climatice. Având în vedere că suprafața medie în UE e de 13 ha, prevederea creează o portiță mare pentru abuzuri.
  • Sustenabilitatea tăierilor de arbori este definită ca aderență la legislația națională. Aproape toate tăierilor actuale ar fi conforme potrivit criteriilor. Acest lucru contravine științei climatice care arată că tăierile actuale au afectat negativ biodiversitatea.
  • Analiza beneficiilor climatice cere demonstrarea beneficiilor pentru o perioadă de 30 de ani de la începerea activităților. Acest lucru contravine țintei de neutralitate climatică a UE până în 2050. Dacă beneficiul ar fi de 1% ar fi cu siguranță insuficient, dar ar fi acceptat de legislație.

Scopul taxonomiei UE este de a eticheta în mod corect fondurile climatice. Semnatarii cer Comisiei Europene să oprească adoptarea acestor criterii care contravin științei climatice.
